The John Bentley School opened a new Post 16 Centre in May 2009. This is a building solely for the use of Post 16 students and incorporates; a Conference Room with interactive whiteboard; a quiet study room; two ICT suites; a large Common Room and kitchen area; and a Resource centre.
Being a JBS Post 16 student is a very different experience to being a Year 11 student here or anywhere else. We still expect you to work hard and achieve the best grades you possibly can, but we also respect the fact that you are no longer a child and that you have chosen to study after 16. We see sixth form life as a stepping stone to you becoming independent adults, equipped to function and succeed in any work or study environment. As a result, Post 16 students enjoy the following privileges:
Opportunities to act as positive role models for younger students.
Daily access to tutors and Assistant Head 14-19.
Freedom to study at home when good working practices have been established.
Real input into decisions which affect you via the Head Student team, Assistant Head
14-19, Headteacher and Governors' committees, etc.
Vertically mixed tutor groups to enhance peer support.
Profession-based work experience in Y12, designed to enable you to research the career of your choice and gain hands-on experience of it.
In 6th Form their will also be many oppotunities to dress up on certain days. We have loads of these event days, for example wear it pink day. All of these raising money for charities. Some of the events that 6th Form students are expected to help with is the cake sales, teachers vs students sports, and much more.
