Parent Advisory Group
The transition from Primary to Secondary education is not only a big step forward for our children, parents often find themselves less connected and distant, with a lot less physical presence at school. The Parent Advisory Group (PAG) at The John Bentley School aims to actively encourage parent/carer involvement within the school and build awareness of the critical link between family involvement and student success.
Our meetings are enjoyable and fulfilling, educational and informative. Each year we are looking for new parents, so come and join in and help shape the success of your child's education at JBS. We promote and organise social and educational activities for all, and plan, organise and support extra-curricular activities and events.
The committee of parents meet regularly with the school management team, gaining an invaluable insight into the curriculum and direction of the school. More importantly, the PAG is involved in the wider decision making processes that affect our children and families, and together help to inform, influence and shape the policies and practices of the school.

What do we do?
- We listen to new ideas from the school and give our opinion
This means we quite often know ahead of time what is going on at the school
- Senior teachers from the school come to meetings to tell us about their subject
We can ask probing questions about departments and see how the subjects are being delivered to our children
- We bring up concerns about the school
The school will then bring someone to the meeting who can answer our questions so we get first hand information
- We put on the PAG Annual Quiz
This is mainly to raise awareness of what we do and to encourage new members
PAG has contributed significantly to:
- The school website design
- The layout and content of reports
- Gathering views from parents/carers
- Supporting school events
We are not…
- A PTA
- A solely fundraising entity
