The John Bentley School

An Outstanding Centre For Learning

PE

Physical Education provision at John Bentley aims to provide its pupils of all abilities with a broad and balanced curriculum. We offer an extensive range of activities within and beyond the curriculum.  As a department we make every effort to appeal to the needs of all young people in the hope that they become committed to life-long physical activity and become successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens.

Key Stage 3

Physical Education

Students in Key Stage 3 are placed into different groups based upon their ability. There is one all male group, one all female group and a mixed ability, mixed gender class. Students have the choice to move between the sets, and mix and match on their sports. Over the three years students will experience a wide range of different sports, including rugby, football, gymnastics/ parkour, swimming, netball, basketball, badminton, table tennis, athletics, softball, rounders and cricket. Emphasis is placed on refining the co-ordination of body movement and skills development as well as enjoying what they are learning. Students will develop confidence, leadership, team work and mutual respect throughout their time at JBS. Participation and commitment to learning are paramount to achieve.

Students have the chance to represent the school at a number of different sports, starting with netball and rugby in term 1 and moving towards basketball, football, cricket, swimming, cross country, athletics, softball and rounders as the year moves on. Students also have the chance to represent their house at a number of different sports, with whole year competitions in rugby, football, cross country, netball, girls football, softball and rounders. Lastly students have the chance to gain prestige by competing in our annual sports day, which is athletics based but includes a significant number of different sports so every student can be involved as a participant or spectator.
