The John Bentley School

An Outstanding Centre For Learning

PE

Physical Education provision at JBS aims to provide its pupils of all abilities with a broad and balanced curriculum. We offer an extensive range of activities within and beyond the curriculum.  As a department we make every effort to appeal to the needs of all young people in the hope that they become committed to life-long physical activity and become successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens.

KEY STAGE 4

CORE PHYSICAL EDUCATION

The core Physical education program in Year 10 is spilt into 3 different pathways. A male only group, a female only group and a mixed ability, mixed gender group. Students can mix and match between the groups, to suit their own sports and locations. In Year 11 students select which activity they want to participate in. Options are chosen at the start of the year with a wide range of activities available that include trampolining, table tennis and fitness, as well as more traditional sports such as football, rugby and netball. Lessons focus on developing skills gained in Key Stage 3 and the variety of roles individuals can take within sport.

GCSE PHYSICAL EDUCATION AT YEAR 11

Students in Year 11 are in their final year of an OCR GCSE Physical Education course. The course is 70% theory, with a 30% final practical grade, assessed in school or in a club environment.

OCR NATIONAL CERTIFICATE AT YEAR 10

This new qualification offers our students the chance to develop different types of skills through largely practical means; communication, problem solving, team working, evaluation and analysis, performing under pressure, and formulating written findings from practical investigation.

This course is more industry relevant, and has become very popular within secondary schools because it suits such a broad range of learning styles and abilities.
