How does The John Bentley School identify, assess and support SEND students?
Identifying and making appropriate provision for SEND is crucial in ensuring all students access and enjoy a varied and stimulating curriculum and achieve more than they thought possible. To this end, all students undertake Reading and Spelling Tests upon arrival in Year 7. These enable us to analyse strengths and areas of concern as early as possible.
We also work with the SENCos from our feeder Primary Schools who pass on their knowledge of how best to support the children that require SEND provision. Students who require extra support may take part in extra sessions aimed at Literacy, Numeracy and Social Skills. We also have a number of Teaching Assistants who are deployed to further support students within the classroom. The TA’s are trained in supporting students with needs and working in partnership with classroom teachers to ensure that all learners access the curriculum and enjoy a positive learning experience.
